Hin Ta and Hin Yai (Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks)

Hin Ta and Hin Yai - Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks - are a granite outcrop at the southern end of Lamai Beach. Erosion has left two shapes that are unmistakably anatomical, which is precisely why they are famous, and the local folk tale explains them as an elderly couple drowned in a storm on their way to arrange their son's marriage.

A short paved walkway runs down from the road through a run of stalls to the rocks and the sea. The setting is genuinely good - a scatter of boulders, clear water, and a view along the Lamai shoreline - and it takes twenty minutes unless you stop for coconut sweets, which are made on site and which most people do stop for.

The path is short but uneven in places, and the rocks themselves are unfenced and slippery when wet.
