Laem Ngop, Trat
Laem Ngop is the coastal district south-west of Trat town, and it is where almost everyone bound for the eastern islands passes through. The ferries and speedboats for Koh Chang, Koh Mak and Koh Kood run from the piers along this stretch of coast.
The town itself is a working fishing settlement built along the shore, with stilt houses standing out over the mudflats, boats drawn up at the tide line and a seafront of small restaurants. A monument near the pier commemorates the naval engagement fought off this coast in 1941.
The mangrove-fringed shoreline and the long mudflats mean it is not a swimming coast; its interest is as a working port and as the point where the mainland ends.
