Lonely Beach (Hat Tha Nam), Koh Chang
The backpacker beach on the south-west coast, cheaper and livelier after dark.
Lonely Beach (Hat Tha Nam), Koh Chang
Hat Tha Nam, universally called Lonely Beach, is on Koh Chang's south-west coast and is the island's backpacker end: cheaper rooms, beach bars, and the liveliest nightlife outside White Sand.
The name is now a misnomer - it has not been lonely for years - but the beach itself is a good one, with a wide sweep of sand at the northern end.
The southern end has a strong and well-documented rip current and has drowned swimmers. There are warning signs; take them seriously and swim at the northern end.
