Trat to Koh Kood Ferry

Trat is the main gateway to Thailand's eastern islands, and the ferry crossing to Koh Kood is the standard way to reach this quiet, jungle-covered island near the Cambodian border. Travelling from Trat to Koh Kood takes around the scheduled journey time, combining a road transfer to the pier with a boat crossing over the Gulf of Thailand.

How to Get from Trat to Koh Kood

Most travellers combine a minivan or taxi from Trat town or Trat Airport with a ferry and shared minivan crossing to the island. The route is served by ferry and speedboat operators, including Boonsiri High Speed Ferries and Seudamgo, alongside other companies running boats and combined transfer tickets from the Trat mainland. Onboard facilities such as onboard facilities are available on many crossings, and staff at the pier can help match your transfer time to your ferry.

Trat to Koh Kood Ferry Schedule

There are 10 scheduled crossings a day between Trat and Koh Kood. Exact departure times vary by operator and by season, so rather than fixing on a single clock time, check the live schedule shown when you book and confirm your sailing in advance. Service generally runs during all year round, with some operators reducing sailings or pausing crossings outside this period due to weather. Booking ahead is especially worthwhile in high season, when the most convenient departures sell out first.

Ferry Prices from Trat to Koh Kood

One-way fares start from ฿550 per person. The exact price depends on the operator, the type of boat, and how far ahead you book, and combined tickets that include a minivan transfer from Trat town or the airport are usually available for a small extra cost. Comparing operators before booking can save both time and money, since transfer arrangements and drop-off points differ.

Departure and Arrival Points

Ferries to Koh Kood depart from piers on the Trat mainland, reachable by taxi or minivan from Trat town and Trat Airport. On arrival, boats dock at piers on Koh Kood, from where most resorts arrange onward pickup or a short transfer by songthaew. If your accommodation is not near the arrival pier, it is worth confirming pickup arrangements before you travel.

Koh Kood, Koh Mak and Koh Chang: Planning Your Island Route

Koh Kood sits close to two other well-known islands off the Trat coast, Koh Mak and Koh Chang. Many travellers combine destinations on the same trip, taking the Trat to Koh Chang ferry for a livelier base with more restaurants and nightlife, or the Trat to Koh Mak ferry for a smaller, quieter island between the two. Inter-island boats also connect Koh Kood with Koh Mak directly, so it is possible to visit both without returning to the mainland in between.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What's the boarding process on the day of my trip?

At the pier named on your ticket, look for the staff of the ferry operator listed on your ticket as well. Please present your e-ticket (QR code) from your phone or other device—they’ll provide you with a sticker and/or boarding pass and direct you to your boat. Most piers have staff available to help load your luggage. In Koh Samui, staff are usually stationed at booths near the boarding area; at other locations, they’re typically near the boats, wearing their company uniforms.

Do I need to print my ferry ticket or is mobile ok?

You don't need to print your ticket. On the day of travel, simply present your e-ticket (QR code) from your phone or other device to the ferry operator staff at the pier named on your ticket—they'll give you a sticker and/or boarding pass and direct you to your boat.

If you'd prefer a printed copy, you can register as a member on our site, which allows you to easily print out your e-tickets and VAT receipts.

What happens if my ferry is cancelled due to weather?

If your trip is cancelled due to bad weather, you can choose between receiving a refund or rescheduling your journey.

Please note that refunds for bad weather are only issued if the ferry operator cancels the trip. Also keep in mind that speedboats are more likely to be cancelled than ferries, as ferries can usually operate in the rain except in extremely bad weather — though journeys may take a little longer during storms or strong winds.

To arrange your refund or new travel date, please click the refund button in your personal Liva account.

What are the baggage allowances?

Your ferry e-ticket includes ferry transport, baggage fees, and handling. The free baggage allowance per person is 20–25 kg, depending on the operator. If your baggage exceeds this limit, you can pay the extra fee directly to the ferry operator in cash.

To check the baggage allowance for your specific trip, please refer to the trip details for your selected route.

Can I change the date of my ticket?

Yes, you can change your trip date as long as you provide notice at least 24, 48, or 72 hours before departure—the exact timeframe depends on the ferry operator you booked with. A small service fee of 200 baht per person applies for a second change.

Please note:

  • Changes must be for the same operator and boat type as your original booking.

  • The change applies to the entire booking; for example, if your booking is for 3 passengers, we cannot change the date or time for just one of them.
