Severe Flooding in Hat Yai Suburbs: Residents Urged to Stay Vigilant

Severe Flooding in Hat Yai Suburbs: Residents Urged to Stay Vigilant
29 November 2024
Weather

Heavy overnight rainfall has led to significant flooding in the outskirts of Hat Yai, particularly affecting the Baan Plak Thong area in Kho Hong subdistrict. Floodwaters have inundated homes, with depths reaching up to 90 centimeters, and have made several roads impassable, even for high-lift pickup trucks. Residents have been relocating belongings to higher ground and using large trucks to move vehicles to safer areas.

The flooding results from continuous rain and overflow from the R6 Canal, which has reached critical levels, prompting red flag warnings. Kho Hong Municipality has deployed personnel and equipment to expedite water drainage. Mayor Taweesak Taweerat has expressed concerns about additional water flow from Khlong Hwa and emphasized the need for ongoing monitoring as rainfall continues.

Assistance from local foundations has been mobilized, providing flat-bottom boats for evacuations and setting up relief kitchens to distribute meals. Residents are advised to stay vigilant, move belongings to higher ground, and prevent children from playing in the strong currents. Meanwhile, Hat Yai's city center remains unaffected, with canals functioning properly for drainage.
