Ao Nid, Koh Mak

Ao Nid is the sheltered inlet on the south-east corner of Koh Mak and functions as the island's working harbour. Fishing boats and the wooden ferries moor at the pier here, and it is one of the points at which visitors arrive from the mainland.

It is not a swimming beach - the shore is mangrove and rock rather than sand - and that is what makes it worth seeing. The village around the pier is where the island's day-to-day life happens: boat repairs, ice, the shops and a few simple restaurants over the water.

Koh Mak is small enough to cross in a few minutes, so Ao Nid is a short ride from the beaches on the opposite coast, and it is the departure point for boats to Koh Kham and the smaller islands nearby.
