Hua Laem Beach, Koh Yao Yai
Hua Laem is on Koh Yao Yai's west coast, looking across the channel toward Phuket. Because it faces west it takes the sunset, which is unusual for the Yao islands - most of their beaches face east into Phang Nga Bay.
There is very little here: sand, trees and a scattering of places to stay. The ferries between Phuket and the Yao islands pass along this coast.
As across both islands, the water is shallow and goes out a long way. Dress modestly away from the beach - these are working Muslim communities.
