John-Suwan Viewpoint is the granite headland at the southern end of Koh Tao, and the climb to the top gives the island's best-known view: two bays falling away on either side — Chalok Baan Kao to the west, Ao Thian Ok to the east — with the boulders and the water meeting below.

John-Suwan is the granite headland at the southern end of Koh Tao, and the climb to the top gives the island's best-known view: two bays falling away on either side — Chalok Baan Kao to the west, Ao Thian Ok to the east — with the boulders and the water meeting below.

The walk up is short but genuinely steep, over bare rock and roots, and needs proper shoes and dry conditions rather than flip-flops. The last section is a scramble across boulders to the top of the point.

Most people go in the late afternoon, when the light is best and the rock has cooled. It is a short ride from Chalok Baan Kao village.
