Laem Phromthep is the rocky headland at the very south of Phuket, where the land runs out into the Andaman Sea. It has been the island's sunset spot for as long as anyone has been coming, and on a clear evening the terrace is crowded well before the light goes.
Behind the viewpoint stand a lighthouse - open to visitors, with a small maritime exhibit - and a shrine crowded with elephant figures left as offerings. A path runs down the spine of the cape toward the tip for those who want to get away from the terrace.
It is about twenty minutes by road from Nai Harn. Parking fills early on clear evenings, and there is no shade on the terrace before sunset.
