Thavorn Phuket Museum
The Thavorn Phuket Museum is a private collection assembled by the family behind the Thavorn Hotel and displayed on the hotel's ground floor on Rasada Road, in Phuket Town. It is a museum of accumulated things rather than a curated narrative: photographs of the town before tourism, tin-mining equipment, old currency and documents, opium-era paraphernalia, antique furniture and the fittings of the hotel itself.
The hotel opened in the mid-twentieth century and was for a time the town's principal hotel, so its own memorabilia — keys, registers, signage — belongs to the same story as the objects around it.
It is an unpolished, cluttered, genuinely local counterpoint to the formal museums a few streets away.
