The Clock Tower, Trang Town
The clock tower stands at the main junction in the middle of Trang town and is the point everything else is described from. Trang itself is a market and trading town rather than a resort, and that is its appeal - it is one of the few southern towns where the streets are not organised around visitors.
The centre keeps a good run of Sino-Portuguese shophouses, and the town is known throughout Thailand for two things found in them: mu yang, Trang-style roast pork, sold from early morning, and the old-style coffee shops that serve it with strong local coffee. A night market runs near the railway station.
Trang is the mainland hub for the islands offshore, so most travellers pass through it, and the town rewards a night rather than a change of transport.
- Kantang Railway Station, Trang — The southernmost terminus on Thailand's west-coast line, a preserved wooden station of 1913.
- Wat Tham Khao Pina, Trang — A cave temple inside a limestone karst in Huai Yot, with shrines on several levels of the cavern.
- Pak Meng Beach, Trang — Trang's main mainland beach, looking out at the karst islands, and the pier for the Trang islands.
