Wat Tham Khao Pina, Trang
Wat Tham Khao Pina occupies a cave inside an isolated limestone karst in Huai Yot district, on the main road north from Trang town. The hill rises straight out of flat farmland, and the temple is entirely within it.
A staircase climbs from the entrance into the main cavern, where a large reclining Buddha and a series of seated images are arranged on natural rock terraces at several levels. Stalactites hang through the shrines, and openings high in the rock light the chamber unevenly - the interior is more dramatic than the modest entrance suggests. Further stairways lead to smaller upper chambers.
It is a working temple, free to enter, and sees far more Thai visitors than foreign ones. It sits roughly midway between Trang and Krabi on the highway.
