Sai Yok Noi Waterfall, Kanchanaburi
Sai Yok Noi falls in a broad limestone curtain into a shallow pool a short walk from Nam Tok station, the present end of the railway line from Kanchanaburi. Its convenience is the point: it is one of very few waterfalls in Thailand reachable on foot from a train.
The fall is wide rather than tall, spilling over a stepped rock face into a pool shallow enough to stand in, and the surrounding area has picnic tables and food stalls. It is popular with Thai families at weekends and holidays and much quieter midweek.
The flow depends heavily on the season - substantial after the rains, reduced to a trickle over bare rock by the end of the dry months. Remains of the Burma Railway, including a cave used as a field hospital, are close by.
