Laem Thian, Koh Tao
Laem Thian is a rocky cape on Koh Tao's east coast, sheltering a small cove that is one of the least visited spots on the island. Above it stand the remains of a resort abandoned years ago and slowly being taken back by the vegetation.
The cove itself is clear and shallow with good snorkelling among the rocks, and the isolation is the point - it is rarely more than a handful of people. Many visitors arrive by boat rather than attempt the overland route.
The track in is genuinely rough and not suitable for a standard scooter, and the ruins are unmaintained - broken concrete, no railings, nobody nearby. Treat both the road and the buildings with caution.
