Laem Tong occupies the northern tip of Phi Phi Don, well away from Tonsai and reachable only by boat - there is no path across the island's forested spine. It is the quiet end of Phi Phi, with a handful of resorts spread along the sand.
A small Urak Lawoi community - sea gypsies, the coast's indigenous people - lives at the northern end of the beach and runs many of the longtails. Bamboo Island and Mosquito Island are a short ride offshore, which makes this a convenient base for snorkelling.
Transfers run from Tonsai and directly from Phuket and Krabi in season. There is very little here beyond the resorts, which is exactly why people choose it.
