The Phi Phi viewpoint is the climb everyone on Phi Phi Don makes. A stepped path rises from the eastern end of Tonsai village to a series of terraces on the hill, and from the second and highest of them you look straight down onto the isthmus - Tonsai Bay on one side, Loh Dalum on the other, and the narrow strip of land and village between them.
It is around twenty to thirty minutes of steady steps, unshaded for much of the way. Sunrise and late afternoon are the sensible times; the middle of the day is punishing.
A small entry fee is collected on the path. It is also the marked evacuation route to high ground - the isthmus was destroyed by the 2004 tsunami and the signs from the village lead up here.
