Koh Tao, often referred to as the "Turtle Island," due to its crucial role as a breeding ground for green turtles and hawksbill turtles. This island, set in the Gulf of Thailand, is a tourist hotspot. Visitors are drawn to Koh Tao for various activities, notably scuba diving and snorkeling. Also for rock climbing and hiking adventures.
Scuba diving enthusiasts consider Koh Tao a mecca. It offers some of Thailand's finest diving sites, and a stunning coral reef. Explorers flock here in search of mesmerizing marine life, including bull sharks and the awe-inspiring whale sharks.
The island continues to expand its offerings to cater to the diverse interests of tourists. The nightlife here has really taken off. It offers plenty of bars, clubs, and beach parties. Restaurants have diversified their menus, ensuring there's something to satisfy every palate. Koh Tao's lodging options have also multiplied.
Getting around Koh Tao is an adventure in itself. Motorbikes and scooters are the primary means of transportation on the island. It provides a thrilling and flexible way to explore its terrain. However, it's crucial to exercise caution when navigating the island's less-than-ideal road conditions. Still, these winding roads lead to hidden gems such as secluded bays and pristine beaches, making the journey itself an integral part of the Koh Tao experience.
Unlike some Thai islands, Koh Tao lacks its own airport. Instead, travelers can access the island via efficient ferry services connecting it to multiple destinations, including Phuket, Koh Samui, and more. The Ton Sai Pier, located on Koh Tao, serves as the primary gateway, welcoming visitors with its lively atmosphere and providing access to Tonsai Village, the island's central hub of activity.
There is no direct ferry from Phi Phi islands to Tao island. The most popular and the cheapest way to get to Koh Tao from Koh Phi Phi is the boat & bus combined ticket.
It all starts on Tonsai Pier. Longtail boats bobbed gently in the clear waters near Tapee Pier, offering travelers a picturesque way to explore the coastal beauty of southern Thailand.
From Tonsai Pier, on Koh Phi Phi, the ferry will take you to Krabi. From Krabi a bus or minivan will take you to Tapee Pier, in Surat Thani. From there, you’ll be taking another ferry straight to Mae Haad Pier. It is just a short walk from Mae Haad Beach. Mae Haad Beach, Koh Phangan boasts a stunning sand bar that extends gracefully into the azure waters.
This route is slightly different from the one mentioned above. Instead of taking the ferry from Tapee Pier in Surat Thani, you’ll take the ferry from Donsak Pier in Surat Thani. This trip is a little bit longer than the previous one. This is also a boat & bus combined ticket.
Throughout the year the weather on Turtle Island is humid and hot and the climate is tropical. The temperature ranges between 27°C and 33°C. The best time to visit the island is from July to August and from December to March.
