Tanote Bay, Koh Tao
Tanote Bay - Ao Tanote - is the most developed of Koh Tao's east-coast bays, though that still means a quiet curve of sand with a few resorts and restaurants rather than anything like Sairee. Large granite boulders sit in the bay and along the shore.
One of those boulders, a short swim out, has a rope up its side and is the bay's best-known feature: people climb it and jump. The snorkelling around the rocks at either end is good and the entry is easy off the sand.
The bay faces east, so it gets the sunrise rather than the sunset, and the road over from the west coast is steep. Tanote Peak, the ridge lookout named for this bay, is above it to the west.
