Drop in temperatures across the northern and central Thailand

Thailand is facing a sharp drop in temperatures across the northern and central regions, while thunderstorms lash the southern provinces, according to the
Thai Meteorological Department (TMD).

In upper Thailand, a moderate high-pressure system is causing cold to very cold conditions, especially in mountainous areas where temperatures range from 4°C to 10°C. The northern region will see lows of 14°C to 18°C and highs of 29°C to 33°C, with frost possible on mountain peaks. The northeastern region will also experience chilly mornings with temperatures ranging from 12°C to 18°C, climbing to highs of 29°C to 32°C.

The central region, including Bangkok, will see foggy mornings and daytime temperatures between 19°C and 21°C at their lowest and 31°C to 33°C at their highest.

In the eastern region, temperatures are expected to drop to 18°C to 23°C in the mornings, with daytime highs of 31°C to 34°C. Offshore, sea waves may rise up to 2 metres in certain areas.

Meanwhile, the southern region is under the influence of the northeast monsoon, bringing isolated thunderstorms and rough seas. On the eastern coast, areas like Nakhon Si Thammarat, Songkhla, Yala, and Narathiwat face waves of up to 2 metres, rising higher in stormy conditions. Temperatures will range from 20°C to 25°C in the morning and 30°C to 32°C during the day.

On the western coast, including Trang and Satun, temperatures will hover between 22°C to 26°C in the morning and 32°C to 34°C in the afternoon, with sea waves exceeding 2 metres during thunderstorms.

Residents in affected regions are advised to take precautions against the cold and stay alert for weather warnings. Mariners should exercise caution and avoid sailing in storm-prone areas.
