Wat Kaew Korawaram, Krabi Town
Wat Kaew Korawaram stands on a low hill in the middle of Krabi town and is the town's principal temple. It is approached up a wide flight of steps flanked by naga balustrades, which lifts it clear of the streets and makes it visible from most of the centre.
The ordination hall is startlingly white - plain rendered walls and a tiered roof, with no gilding - which is unusual in southern Thailand and gives the building a much cleaner outline than the norm. Inside, modern murals run around the walls, and the terrace outside looks over the town roofs towards the Krabi river.
It is an active town temple rather than a visitor attraction, and it is a few minutes' walk from the night market and the riverfront.
